What Are The Chakras?

You won’t find much scientific evidence on the existence of the chakras.

Chakras are vortexes in the human body through which energy flows. The Sanskrit word chakra translates to wheel, or disk. There are seven main chakras that run along the spine, from the base to the crown of the head.

The chakras are located near major endocrine glands and nerve ganglia in the physical body. Each spiritual energy center has its own distinct properties and corresponds to different physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects of your being.

You can think of them like the operating systems on your phone or computer. All of the systems need to be working properly for things to run smoothly.

The chakras are interconnected and when they are in balance (chakras open), the energy flows freely throughout the body, leading to harmony within. However, if any of the chakras are blocked or imbalanced, it can lead to physical or emotional issues.

The seven main chakras are: Root Chakra (Muladhara), Sacral Chakra (Svadhisthana), Solar Plexus Chakra (Manipura), Heart Chakra (Anahata), Throat Chakra (Vishuddha), Third Eye Chakra (Ajna), and Crown Chakra (Sahasrara).

How Energy Moves Through The Chakra System

It is believed that energy flows through the body via the Nadis, or energetic channels. This energy is often referred to as prana, chi, qi, or life force energy.

The seven chakras in the body act as gateways for the flow of this divine energy. The chakra energy centers are believed to spin due to the flow of energy through the body.

Energy moves through the system, starting from the Root Chakra at the base of the spine and moving upwards to the Crown Chakra at the top of the head.

The energy then flows back down to the base, keeping us grounded. The energy that flows through the chakras can be affected by our thoughts, emotions, physical health, and environment.

When energy flow through a chakra is blocked, or imbalanced, it can lead to physical or emotional problems in the areas of the body that it governs.

Physical manifestations of a blocked Root Chakra can be constipation or eating disorders, while an imbalanced Heart Chakra can lead to shortness of breath or tension between your shoulders.

By practicing techniques for chakra balancing, or chakra cleansing, you can remove blockages and promote the free flow of energy through your body. This can lead to improved physical health, emotional well-being, and spiritual growth.
